Scott J. Cotler, MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine and Chief of the
Section of Hepatology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He received
his undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Michigan and
his medical degree at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine.
Dr. Cotler completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology at RUSH-Presbyterian-St.
Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and continued his training with
a fellowship in Hepatology at the University of Washington. He is board
certified in Internal Medicine with a Gastroenterology subspecialty.
Dr. Cotler’s research has focused on the topic of hepatitis C. He
has studied hepatitis C viral kinetics, cytokine responses to interferon
therapy, hepatitis C and iron, hepatitis C in renal transplant candidates,
and interferon therapy for liver transplant recipients. His current research
focuses on hepatitis C and HIV, hepatitis C viral kinetics, and hepatitis
C posttransplant. He also has an interest in the pathogenesis and treatment
of NASH.
Dr. Cotler has published numerous research papers, review articles, and
chapters that address fundamental therapy issues related to hepatitis C.
He has published original articles in journals, including Liver Transplantation,
Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, Journal
of Viral Hepatitis, Journal of Infectious Diseases, and Journal
of Virology. Dr.
Cotler has also contributed review articles on hepatitis C in Gastroenterology
and Clinical Perspectives in Gastroenterology. Dr. Cotler is a member
of the American College of Physicians, the American Association for the Study
of Liver Diseases, and the American Gastroenterological Association.
