CASE STUDY:
Retreatment/Treatment of Special Populations (patient with HCV following solid organ transplant)
CLINICAL INFORMATION
HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS
A 60-year-old Egyptian woman, who in 1999 sought medical attention because of increased fatigue, anorexia, lethargy, and abdominal bloating, was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C (HCV) infection. The patient’s main complaint at that time was anorexia, and she reported a weight loss of about 100 lbs during the few months prior to her initial consultation. Her family physician documented abnormal liver test results dating back to 1996. The diagnosis of chronic HCV, genotype 4, was made based on the laboratory test results. The patient was not treated for HCV at the time of diagnosis because of the advanced status of her liver disease.
